Best Friends Animal Society works with shelters, rescue groups and their members nationwide to bring about a time when there will be no more homeless pets. Best Friends had its origins in Arizona in the 1970s with a group of animal lovers who were unwilling to accept the conventional wisdom that humane societies and shelters had no choice but to kill their unadoptable animals. Best Friends operates the nation’s largest sanctuary for homeless animals; provides adoption, spay/neuter, and educational programs around the country; manages the Best Friends Network, an interactive, online global community; and publishes Best Friends, the nation’s largest general-interest animal magazine.
Established in 1954, The HSUS seeks a humane and sustainable world for all animals—a world that will also benefit people. We are America’s mainstream force against cruelty, exploitation and neglect, as well as the most trusted voice extolling the human-animal bond. They work to reduce suffering and to create meaningful social change for animals by advocating for sensible public policies, investigating cruelty and working to enforce existing laws, educating the public about animal issues, joining with corporations on behalf of animal-friendly policies, and conducting hands-on programs that make ours a more humane world. They are the lead disaster relief agency for animals, and provide direct care for thousands of animals at their sanctuaries and rescue facilities, wildlife rehabilitation centers, and mobile veterinary clinics.
Every year, millions of animals suffer in fur farms and circus cages. In Born Free USA’s campaigns against such cruelties, they use powerful tools including legislation, public education, litigation, and grassroots networking. They also work actively with media to spread the word about challenges facing animals. Their primary campaign areas currently include animals used in entertainment, captive exotic animals, trapping and fur, and the international wildlife trade.
Its main mission is to curb the pet overpopulation problem by subsidizing spay/neuter surgeries. Together with other vital services, they are there to help pet guardians living on a low and/or fixed income care for their beloved companions. Their programs include: pet overpopulation, spay/neuter help, pet care, emergency medical help, pet-assisted therapy, humane education, and a feral cats assistance program.
